Who Is It For?

Although this facility is targeted at the sporting fraternity within the community and as a venue for national and international events it also being developed as a recreational area open to the public on a daily basis (except at events).

Sports directly obvious include rowing, flat water kayaking, water slalom skiing and Waka ama, however this only a start.

Careful design of facilities can mean the paraplegic and blind sports men and woman sports are catered for with as much ease as possible (e.g paraplegic rowing).

Marathon swimming and the swim legs of Triathlons could also use the course for training and events in calm water to exacting distances.

Many sports people have to train very early each morning in order to avoid the wind. This course will provide a course that allows training and events during all daylight hours.

It will be open to non sporting activity such as water safety training or scouting as they need to use it.

With careful landscaping the area surrounding the course can be planned with paths and tracks to enable further recreation opportunities for both cyclists and walkers in a native bush setting. In addition some areas may be rehabilitated and closed to the public to allow small refuges for the fauna to establish undisturbed.
