The issue of residual herbicide which was disposed of on the island in the past has been raised recently. The trust is endeavouring to establish where these dumps are and if it is in the area which will be excavated. The concern was that disturbing this area would result in the herbicides leaching into the estuary and causing ecological harm. The Trust is seeking information on this issue, as anecdotal evidence is that this was carried out until the mid 1980s, sometimes in unmarked areas. Part of the feasibility study will hopefully identify the known sites and enable a plan to be put in place to deal with any potential issues
